A free resource for authors + poll results

News & Musings from

Dear Reader,

Before I get into Book 5 promotion mode (publication is less than two weeks away), I wanted to share something with you that I mentioned briefly in my previous email. As I said, I'm now offering an online indie publishing course, Publishing Without Panic.

Why? Because taking the leap into self-publishing is a bit scary—even though there are lots of resources online to help you do it. Often they simply tell you what to do without telling you why and explaining the consequences of each publishing decision you make.

So I also created a thing to help with one of those big publishing decisions.

You know you need to decide whether to offer your ebook through Kindle Unlimited or go wide and offer it everywhere—Nook, Kobo, Apple Books—but what's the right approach? Even experienced indie authors can struggle with this question, because there's no single right answer.

I decided I needed to offer a no-nonsense, thoughtful guide to help authors make that decision—and give the guide away:

If you're even considering indie publishing, I hope you'll grab this! Indie author Jeni Lynn said:

Thank you, Susanne, for creating such an easy-to-understand guide. I could have made a big mistake, and now I feel much more confident as I move ahead and publish my book.

As I said, it's completely free. Check it out!

Now, the results from last week's poll!

By far and away those who responded said they preferred linked standalone novels as a series (although one person wanted an "all of the above" selection—but this platform only allows me to offer five choices...).

And the character readers most wanted to see in book 6 (drumroll please!):

A TIE! Between Lady Mariana Thorne and the Duke of Hartland.

Who will make it into the pages of the final book in the series? You'll have to wait and see. I'm hoping it will be published this summer.

One bit of information about The Teacher's Noble Heart

As I've said, this book gives governess Persephone Wilkins her opportunity to shine and achieve her own happy-ever-after. As I've also said, it stays in Cornwall.

However, it's not the ton estate Cornwall of The Falconer's Lost Baron. It's the hardscrabble, working Cornwall of Poldark. Except instead of copper mines, it features what was the largest slate quarry in the world at the time: Delabole. This is a picture as it looks today:

The quarry shaped everyone's life in the vicinity of Camelford and the little villages nearby, and it's at the heart of the drama in this story.

The Teacher's Noble Heart is available for preorder—and preorders are very good for the Amazon algorithm, so very much appreciated!

I hope you are all enjoying the end of February. Up here in the snow-bound northeast we're looking wistfully forward to the first day of spring, which apparently is less than a month away—so I've been told...

All the best,

Susanne

Cover of The Teacher's Noble Heart, book 5 in the Double-Dilemma romance series by Susanne Dunlap

News & Musings from Susanne Dunlap Dear Reader, Gulp! Only a week until launch day for The Teacher's Noble Heart, book five in my Double-Dilemma Romance series. Book five!!! I'm kind of gobsmacked when I think that The Dressmaker's Secret Earl, the first book in the series, was published less than a year ago. I started writing it months before that, of course, but I'm still amazed at how these romances have poured out of me, as if they were hiding in my heart and just waiting for their chance...
